Renee van Kessel practices corporate/commercial law at Cohen, Barristers & Solicitors. With over 10 years experience as in-house counsel to some of Canada’s best known organizations, including the LCBO and the AIR MILES® Program, Renee has expertise in contract negotiations, business law, marketing, privacy, procurement, intellectual property, information technology and employment law.
Prior to joining Cohen, Renee held positions as legal counsel at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, as Director, Legal and Privacy Officer at Loyalty Management Group Canada Inc., and Director, Legal and Business Affairs at Owl Communications Inc. Renee has extensive experience volunteering with various international organizations, including the Canadian Institute of International Affairs (Executive Committee), Center for Peace Through Culture (Canadian counsel), and Proyecto Acceso (Strategic Advisor).
Fluent in German, and working on her French and Spanish, Renee received her Bachelor of Laws from Osgood Hall Law School at York University, and her Bachelor of Arts Honours in Political Studies at Queen’s University in Kingston.
Renee was called to the Bar in 1995 and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
